ABOUT

Immanuel is an architect and an independent design consultant/researcher. In 2010, he graduated with a post-professional Masters Degree in Architecture & Urbanism from the Design Research Laboratory (AA DRL) at the Architectural Association in London, where he was a recipient of the Architectural Association Graduate Bursary. During his studies at the AA, he was a Teaching Assistant to Alisa Andrasek (director of Biothing) at the AA DRL, who was also his thesis supervisor. Since graduation, Immanuel continued his affiliation with the AA as the Unit Master for the AA Visiting Schools, including AA Shanghai (+Hong Kong University’s Shanghai Study Centre) and AA Beijing (+Tsinghua University).

Currently, Immanuel is a Faculty member at Dessau Institute of Architecture (DIA/Bauhaus) Graduate School and an Acting Partner at anOtherArchitect (Berlin) with Daniel Dendra. He has taught at the Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture & Design in Moscow (Russian Federation) during the Summer Program, as well as, the Ecole Spéciale d´Architecture (ESA) in Paris (France) as a Workshop Tutor. Immanuel was also a Visiting Researcher with the Ambient Intelligence Lab at the Interactive & Digital Media Institute (IDMI) at the National University of Singapore (NUS). This research is funded by the National Research Foundation (NRF) of Singapore.

Prior to the AA, he studied at the National University of Singapore (NUS) where he was a Teaching Assistant at the M.Arch level during his studies there. In 2010, Immanuel was briefly invited as a Guest Lecturer and Visiting Thesis Advisor. He has also previously taught at the Singapore Polytechnic (SP) as a Studio Master and practised as an Architect in Singapore.

His design research areas include generative/computational design, physical computing and virtual social/urban spaces.  His work has recently been featured at the Architectural Beijing Biennial 2010. Immanuel’s work has also been published and exhibited internationally, including Greece, London, France, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Moscow and Singapore. Other awards received include the Hong Kong Designers Awards (HKDA).
